Planning policies shape how places will be developed in the future. The Local Plan is currently used to guide the Council's day-to-day planning decisions and explains what type of development will normally be allowed and where.

The Local Plan is gradually being replaced by the Local Development Framework. The Local Development Framework is a folder of local development documents outlining how planning will be managed in Hyndburn.

The key documents within the Local Development Framework include -

• Adopted Core Strategy and Accrington AAP
• Core Strategy (Submission Stage)
• Accrington Area Action Plan (Submission Stage)
• Core Strategy (Earlier stages and consultation)

This will set out how Hyndburn will develop over the next 15 years or so. There are other documents that make up the Local Development Framework.
