Capital Counted Towards a Claim
Does my capital affect my claim?
If you receive income-based Jobseekers Allowance, Income Support or Guaranteed Pension Credit, all your capital is disregarded and will not affect your entitlement to Housing/Council Tax Benefit.
In all other cases, we will take into account capital belonging to you and any partner, excluding disregarded capital, in the assessment of your claim and if your capital exceeds £16,000, you will not be entitled to Housing/Council Tax Benefit.
Please note that in relation to the Savings element of Pension Credit we use the calculation of capital worked out by the Pension Service, however if we calculate capital to be over £16000.00 we can use that calculation.
