Designated Public Places Order
Introduction to Extension of Designated Public Places Order
Public Consultation:
Extension of Designated Public Places Order
(On-street drinking restriction)
Currently, street drinking restrictions apply in Accrington Town Centre. This means that police have the power to ask anyone drinking in these places to stop drinking and hand over the alcohol if they believe they are causing, or are likely to cause, a nuisance. Failure to comply with the request can lead to arrest and a maximum fine of £500.
Extending the restrictions would cover the whole borough of Hyndburn in the same way would give the police additional power to tackle alcohol related nuisance and disorder.
Any views on whether or not the Council should extend the restrictions should be sent in writing to:
Community Safety Team
Hyndburn Borough Council
20 Cannon Street
Accrington
BB5 1NJ
or email: communitysafety@hyndburnbc.gov.uk
by Tuesday 26 May 2009
The consultation period closes on Tuesday 26 May 2009. The Council will consider the results of the consultation before making a final decision later this year on whether to extend the restrictions.
