How Will My Complaint Be Dealt With?
Your complaint will be considered by the Assessment Sub-Committee. This comprises of 3 members of the Standards Committee and will be chaired by somebody who is independent of Hyndburn Borough Council and Altham Parish Council.
The Assessment Sub-Committee can decide to do one of the following:
- to refer your complaint to the Council's monitoring officer for investigation
- to refer your complaint to the Council's monitoring officer for other action, such as mediation or the provision of training
- to refer your complaint to the Standards Board for England for investigation
- to take no action in respect of your complaint.
The Assessment Sub-Committee will use the Standards Committee assessment criteria to assess your complaint and decide what action to take.
If the Assessment Sub-Committee decides to take no action in respect of your complaint you have a right of appeal. You can ask for your complaint to be considered again by the Review Sub-Committee. This will also comprise of 3 members of the Standards Committee and will be chaired by a person who is independent of Hyndburn Borough Council and Altham Parish Council. However, it will not include anyone who was involved in dealing with your complaint as a member of the Assessment Sub-Committee.
