Changes in Legislation From April 2011
Housing Benefit and Council Tax Benefit assist people on low incomes to help pay their rent and council tax payments.
From 1 April 2011, there are a number of major changes in Housing Benefit and Council Tax Benefit legislation.
- Local Housing Allowance (LHA) - LHA is subject to a number of important changes from 1 April 2011. More detail is provided in the LHA area of our website.
- Non-dependant deductions - Housing Benefit and Council Tax Benefit are normally reduced for each non-dependant living in the claimants home. These deductions are increasing from 1 April 2011, which may mean that you will receive less Housing Benefit and Council Tax Benefit. Click here to view a chart showing the changes in the amount.
- People who have a carer who stays overnight - From 1 April 2011, for people who rent their home from a private landlord, may get extra help toward from Housing Benefit. Our factsheet provides further details.
