Statutory Nuisance

What is a Statutory Nuisance?

A Statutory Nuisance is something which has an unreasonable and persistant effect on a persons every day life, or poses a threat to their health or wellbeing.

A Statutory Nuisance may include;

  • Accumulation of refuse and other material
  • Dogs barking excessively
  • Dust
  • Fumes
  • Industrial Noise
  • Intruder alarms
  • Loud music (domestic or commercial)
  • Odours
  • Shouting

The Council has a duty to investigate reports of Statutory Nuisance, and may take legal action under the Environmental Protection Act 1990 to resolve any complaints.
