Royal Visit 2012
Large crowds are expected to flock to Accrington town centre on Wednesday 16 May, as Hyndburn gears up to give Her Majesty the Queen and His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh a warm Lancashire welcome when they visit Accrington as part of her Diamond Jubilee Tour.
The Borough is buzzing with news of the Royal Visit when Her Majesty and His Royal Highness will visit Accrington Market Hall, where The Queen will unveil a coat of arms and then joined by The Duke of Edinburgh, will visit market stalls.
Following this, Her Majesty and His Royal Highness will move to Accrington Town Hall where they will attend a short reception and then view a County Parade and March Past from the Town Hall balcony.
Council Leader, Cllr Miles Parkinson said; "16 May will be such a special day for Hyndburn, we are really looking forward to welcoming The Queen and The Duke and we're absolutely thrilled and honoured that Accrington is featuring in the Diamond Jubilee Tour. We expect lots of people to turn out with their flags to see the royal visitors and wish the Queen well after 60 wonderful years of service to the Country. We want as many people as possible to be able to see The Queen so we're advising people to be in the town centre before 1.30pm. If the town centre around the Town Hall and Market Hall area on Blackburn Road is really busy we're advising people to head to Manchester Road or Burnley Road for a chance to see The Queen."
Cllr Parkinson added; "It's 57 years since The Queen's last visit to Accrington in 1955, but the warm Lancashire welcome will be just the same. We're proud that our rich history and heritage is to be seen on the national stage and that the Royal visitors will see first hand the £2 million transformation of our fabulous award winning Market Hall to its former glory."
During the visit The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh will also meet 22 Mayors of Lancashire and Cumbria at the Town Hall.
