Zoeyah Tells Cabinet About Global Young Leaders Conference

Published Thursday 3rd December 2009 in Health and social care news

Council Leader, Cllr Peter Britcliffe, was thrilled to hear about local girl, Zoeyah Shaheen’s experiences at the Global Young Leaders Conference in New York City and Washington DC in the summer.

Zoeyah gave a presentation to Hyndburn's Cabinet last week after they sponsored her to attend the conference. She spent 13 days there working with other young scholars from around the world finding out about other cultures, how international businesses work and leadership via presentations and workshops with some of the worlds leading ambassadors, diplomats, lobbyists and journalists.

Zoeyah also visited many places during her trip including the Holocaust Museum, the White House and the United Nations building where she was given a guided tour.  The whole event culminated in a Global Summit which simulated the United Nations and where Zoeyah and her colleagues discussed and debated national policies that they had been working on during the conference.

Cllr Britcliffe said, "This was a fantastic opportunity to support a high-achieving young person living in the Borough allowing her to be involved in experiences she wouldn't otherwise have. We were thrilled to hear of her experiences.  She told us about how the conference has benefited her personally and the community. We are all really proud of her."

Zoeyah said, "I am so grateful to the Council for giving me this opportunity.  In all honesty it has given me a different perspective on life and an understanding of other cultures.  It really made me realise that anything is possible."

Church and Milnshaw Area Council also sponsored Zoeyah.
