Keep Warm In The Winter

Published Monday 26th July 2010 in Community and living news

We’re right in the middle of summer, but those cold winter nights are just around the corner and soon we’ll all be thinking about keeping warm and keeping heating bills down.

The Council's Energy Saving grants, for people aged 55 and over,  has been a real success and 2147 householders have used the grant to have their homes fitted with things like loft Insulation, new boilers, central heating, cavity wall insulation, double glazing, and draught proofing.

People like 82 and 84 year old Tony and Esther Davies of Clayton who had a new boiler fitted two months ago.

Esther said, "We are delighted with our new boiler which we've had installed through the scheme and we look forward to it making a big difference to our winter bill."

Cllr Janet Storey said, "This is a really popular scheme and Homewise have done a great job of administering this grant for us, so much so that they came runners up in DEFRA'S prestigious national 'Affordable Warmth Sustainable World' awards."

If you're a Hyndburn resident and over 55 please get in touch with Homewise on 232 249,  to see if you can get the £250 grant towards making your home warmer for the winter, and keep those heating bills down.
