Improvements To Cemetery Now Complete

Published Thursday 21st July 2011 in Community and living news

Councillors have welcomed improvements at Accrington cemetery with the installation a new road for better access to graves next to Bolton Avenue and the completion of the exit drive.

This means its now much easier for funeral corteges and visitors vehicles to get to graves in that area of the cemetery.

A new water stand pipe has also been installed near to the Whitewell Road gates, which will mean that visitors to that area don't have to walk far to get water for flowers now.

Cllr Munsif Dad, Cabinet Member for Cemeteries and Crematoria said; "This is great news for visitors to the cemetery. The new road is fantastic, it will make such a difference to mourners as cars will be able to go right round without having to reverse in a tight spot, and people on foot will also find the access that much easier.  We've also had many relatives asking for a water standpipe, so it's great that it's now in place."

Cllr Dave Parkins, who has campaigned for the link road for many years said, "It's wonderful to see this link road finished. It will make a big difference to burials in the area, as previously hearses had to turn round in a really tight spot and access to the site was difficult for elderly and disabled visitors, so I'm really pleased that it's now complete."
