The quest of the Council to be greener paid off recently when it was named runner up in three categories of The Energy Saving Trust Fleet Hero Awards 2011.
Cllr Munsif Dad, Cabinet Member for Environmental Issues said; "Well done to our teams who have worked hard to get our carbon footprint down. Their hard work has been recognised by these awards which celebrate public and private organisations that are successfully reducing their carbon footprints - and lowering their fuel bills - through fleet travel and transport policies."
The awards also celebrate companies that supply the most innovative cost and fuel-saving products or services to car and van fleets.
Speaking about the Motorvate member of the Year, judges said; "The runners-up, Hyndburn BC joined the Motorvate scheme in 2009 and immediately gained gold level status from the actions taken following their Energy Saving Trust Green Fleet Review a couple of years earlier. This is commendable in its own right, but this organisation was not content to sit on its laurels, and have maintained their gold status every year since, completing a hat-trick this year.
Although a relatively small fleet operation, Hyndburn Council has completed actions that would benefit a fleet ten times its size. Senior management in this organisation have taken a strong lead in delivering progress."
