Allotment Plots Available

Published Thursday 28th June 2012 in Environment and planning news

More local people could have the chance to grow their own fruit and vegetables, as ‘ready to grow’ allotments are up for grabs at some sites in the Borough.

Allotments are available in a scenic spot overlooking Woodnook Vale in Accrington, and at the south facing Meadoway site, near Queen's Road West, Church.  Productive raised bed plots are also available on Norden, Great Harwood and Heys, Oswaldtwistle.

Cllr Ciaran Wells, Cabinet Member for Allotments said; 'Allotments are always popular, so this is a great opportunity to rent a plot and start growing your own food. There's been lots of improvement work to make plots suitable for people's different needs and interests.'

Cllr Wells added; 'There's  range of good quality growing spaces  available for letting to new tenants now - raised beds, easy access beds and manageable sized plots.'

Cllr Wells continued; 'Both Woodnook and Meadoway sites include easy access beds to enable people with mobility or health needs to benefit from food growing and social benefits of the allotment experience. There is also advice and support available from the Community Food Growing co-ordinator with some fun informative activity sessions in organic growing methods.'

If you are interested in an allotment, call Allotments Officer,  Ian Marfleet, on 01254 388 111.
