Trading Opportunities at Accrington Market
Accrington Market Hall refurbishment is now complete incorporating the creation of an ‘Enterprise Haven’ within the building.
The £2 million project was jointly-funded by owners Hyndburn Borough Council and the Government’s Local Enterprise Growth Initiative (LEGI).
The first phase of repairs was to the roof and the second phase was to convert former storage space at balcony level into an Enterprise Haven. These storage spaces were originally the town’s reading rooms until Accrington Library was completed. The final phase was the refurbishment of the sales floor and existing stalls.
The Market Hall is central to the Council’s plans to encourage economic development and regenerate Accrington Town Centre. The Enterprise Haven will provide accommodation for fledgling companies and business support via the local Enterprise Trust which has been helping start-ups for over 20 years.
The Market Hall was chosen for the new Enterprise Haven because of it’s central location and established footfall. Surveys confirmed that under-used stores at balcony level were suitable for conversion to retail and office use to complement the refurbishment of existing stalls. The Enterprise Haven will provide a new ‘hot desk’ area with dedicated PC’s and Trust business facilities for stallholders and the public.
The balcony was extended with a new mezzanine floor and provides a new cafe and an exhibition area, which displays art from local schools, photographic societies and other local aritists.
Public access has been improved with a new central staircase and lift. The new space targets ‘Creative Industries’, e.g. Arts and Crafts, Jewellery silversmiths and artists studios that complement the more traditional market stalls and fresh food, etc. on offer on the ground floor.
A number of stalls are still available in the Market Hall.
Enquiries for stalls on the Open Market and within the Market Hall should be made to the Management Office on 01254 233 816.
