Equalities and Diversity
Delivering on Equalities and Diversity in 2010/11…
- We were assessed as being an ‘Achieving’ authority for our equalities work by an independent team.
- The Council gained funding to provide a state of the art disabled changing facility at Hyndburn Leisure Centre, enabling people with the most profound disabilities to enjoy swimming and other sports at the Leisure centre.
- The Wheels4Life project at Woodlands in Clayton Le Moors upgraded paths to improve cycling facilities for disabled people.
- AAWAZ recently completed a piece of research on behalf of the Council on cohesion in Hyndburn which was extremely positive and will form the basis of future work on cohesion.
- The Council help secure funding which provided the following schemes:
- We assisted more than 500 migrants to access integration programmes
- A Home Office approved citizenship programme was delivered by Accrington and Rossendale College
- AAWAZ Citizens Together Project provided an introduction to the language, culture and norms of English society aimed at assisting migrants to become active citizens.
