Christmas and New Year opening times

Our offices will be closed from 5pm on Friday 21 December and will re-open on Wednesday 2 January 2019.

Our waste and recycling crews are mostly working as normal over the Christmas and New Year period with the only changes affecting recycling and refuse on the following days:

Please present your bins in the usual place for 7.30 am.

Please recycle as much as possible over the Christmas period.  We know that you will have more cardboard and glass and we will collect as much as you can recycle. Please place any extra recycling bags at the side of the bin ensuring any glass is placed inside the blue bin. We also know that you might have more rubbish at this time of year so our crews will collect 2 extra bags of waste on your first grey wheelie bin collection after the 25 December.

The household waste and recycling centre (tip) at Whinney Hill is open from 8 am to 5 pm every day except Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.

Wrapping paper and Christmas cards can be recycled, please include them in your brown bin. Please leave out all foiled wrapping paper and any paper/cards with glitter on, plastic pieces or any ribbons.

You can book in bulky collections on our my.hyndburn service, an online portal which you can use to log requests for our waste and recycling teams.

my.hyndburn is also available as a mobile app which will send bin/recycling day reminders to you too!

Christmas Tree Collections

There will be a special collection of natural Christmas trees in your area which will be turned into compost or wood chippings.

You don’t need to book a collection.  Simply place your tree where you normally present your recycling bin on the first recycling collection from Monday 7 January (no lights, trimmings or plastic bases please) by 7.30 am.
