Historic Accrington Markets

Accrington Market Hall Opening Times

Situated in the centre of Accrington, the Victorian Market Hall can be found next to the Town Hall and is adjacent to the main pedestrian shopping street, Broadway.Dating back to the Victorian era, the corner stone was laid in May 1868 by S Dugdale and the opening ceremony took place in October 1869.

The Tuesday market was established in the 16 April 1872.

Although the origin of Accrington’s market is unknown, some notion of the antiquity of this institution in the life of the community may be gathered from the court roll of November 1547 which bears witness to the presence of a corn market in the early 16th century continuing until the early 19th century at Lower Fold.
