AAWAZ charity organisation is celebrating International Women’s Day by launching a song about being “Together” and supporting each other.
AAWAZ is an independent registered charity working with women and families. Established in 1997.
The charity is based at Access Point Centre, 225 Blackburn Road, Accrington. BB5 0AL
During the Covid-19 pandemic over the past 12 months, Aawaz Team have been supporting the communities offering befriending support to women and encouraging them to stay
positive, to look after their health and wellbeing. From this challenging work has come a beautiful and emotional poem, words collected from a group of ladies who all access Aawaz support.
“We were so moved by the poem, that it was felt, it needed to be shared with everyone” explained Aawaz Patron Mrs Jean Battle MBE. Aawaz has worked with very talented music Teacher Jayne Bradshaw and the Over 50s New Era Choir and all our supporters to create the song. Jayne helped to create the song and the music, and her husband Brian Bradshaw recorded and produced the audio. Aawaz supporters joined in the zoom sessions learning to sing and everyone enjoyed recording that was their own contribution. A video accompanies the song which was made by Samantha Deas.
“This year it is not possible to hold our annual multicultural community event to celebrate the achievement of the learners, but the service users wanted to get the message to all the communities by means of the song. It is such a challenging time for everyone”. Explained Aawaz Chairperson Maryam Jahanzeb.
The charity says that it’s been quite a problematic time for all of its service users who face many barriers, including poor health, low income, poor housing and poor access to amenities. It is also, rather an emotional time; the impact of Covid-19 pandemic has been felt very hard. Aawaz is here for the women and families in time of need, offering support and help, delivering food parcels, toiletry parcels, activity packs, learning packs to help women and families so that they are not alone in time of need.
