The Council’s Food and Safety Team are running more free allergen awareness workshops every month for local food businesses in the New Year.
The interactive workshops follow a well-received series of similar events in 2018 and the first ones will be held on 29 and 31 January at Scaitcliffe House in Accrington, to help raise awareness of the importance of allergen management. More workshops will be held every month throughout 2019.
Cllr Paul Cox, Cabinet Member for Environmental Issues, said; “Business owners must make sure that they make information about food ingredients available to consumers, and to make sure consumers with allergies are protected from the potentially fatal consequences of anaphylactic shock – the condition that people with allergies could experience if exposed to an allergen like nuts, peanuts and fish, for example. Therefore it’s vitally important that food businesses understand their responsibilities and these workshops aim to inform and educate business owners about their allergen management plans to keep customers safe.”
