2022 sees the return of the ‘Haworth Art Gallery Open’ following a hiatus of two years due to the pandemic.
The Open has been a long-standing part of the exhibition calendar which showcases the talents of local and regional artists. Artists are invited to submit two works each from mixed disciplines including painting, illustration, drawing, printmaking, sculpture, ceramics, textiles, and photography.
Submissions are welcome from unknown, emerging, and established artists, and work is judged purely on its own merits, anonymously, rather than on the artist’s CV.
Gillian Berry, Manager at Haworth Art Gallery said:
“The Haworth Open is one of our most popular exhibitions and showcases both local and regional artists. This year we are introducing some changes. Haworth Art Gallery Open will be judged by a professional artist and the public will also be invited to choose their favourite artwork in the show.”
People can collect an entry form from Haworth Art Gallery during regular opening hours, Wednesday – Sunday 12pm-4:30pm. A handling fee of £15 is charged per entry.
For 2022, Richard Cross, RAS and recent winner of the Anthony J Lester Art Critic Award will select the final entries for the exhibition. He will also select the best in show and young artist award (18-30) which will win prizes.
All of the selected work will be included in the exhibition and most of the work will be available to purchase.
The exhibition launch will take place when the exhibition opens on Saturday 1st October 2022 at 12pm with the Deputy Mayor of Hyndburn, Councillor Terry Hurn and Richard Cross. Richard will also be available to talk with the artists and visitors at the launch.
Cllr Terry Hurn, Deputy Mayor of Hyndburn, said:
“I am really looking forward to attending the launch of this event. With a break for a few years due to covid I am sure there will be a huge number of fantastic entries. What is wonderful about the Open exhibition is anyone can enter, it is also ideal for people who are waiting to be discovered, or just want to share their work for people to enjoy. I wish everyone submitting work the best of luck.”
