Congratulations to long serving Councillor, Jean Battle, who was awarded an MBE for her charitable and political services in the Queen’s New Year’s Honours lists.

Cllr Battle has served the Council for 21 years, representing Milnshaw, Barnfield, and currently Church Ward.  She has also served as Mayor was Deputy Leader of the Council and Cabinet Portolio Holder for Housing 2002/3.  Cllr Battle was also Labour Leader (as Opposition) from 2003 -2005 and awarded as Honorary Alderman in 2011.

For more than 25 years she has been a patron of the Aawaz charity in Hyndburn and for 30 years has been involved with the Helping Hands charity.

She has also acted as chair of the Church Kirk Residents Association for the last nine years and chair of the Patients Participation Group at Accrington Victoria Hospital.
