To welcome the reign of HM King Charles III, Hyndburn Borough Council are pleased to announce an exciting programme of funded events to mark the Coronation Weekend.
Hyndburn Borough Council invited applications for events proposals from across the whole borough and there was a large volume submitted by community groups and businesses. Community groups have also been invited to apply for up to £10,000 of lottery funding, with council officers being on hand to support applications.
Events will be taking place throughout the borough, from a proposed celebratory picnic in Great Harwood to the dressing of Rishton to create the ideal backdrop for the weekend. Hyndburn Leisure Trust will also be organising a screening of the Coronation at Accrington Town Hall for Hyndburn residents to come together to watch the ceremony, along with entertainment and food to make a fun, family-friendly day out.
The celebration doesn’t end there – the Town Hall and Accrington at large will be dressed in their finest for the occasion to help get everyone into the spirit of the weekend. To mark the occasion, the Council will be hanging bunting throughout the area, as well as a display taking place at the Town Hall.
Cllr Marlene Haworth, Deputy Leader of the Council, said:
“The King and Queen Consort are encouraging people to spend the weekend celebrating with friends, families and their communities and this is a message that all of us agree with! I am really pleased that we are able to mark this once in a generation community celebration by funding events that will appeal to all ages.”
Hyndburn neighbours and communities can also come together to celebrate with the Coronation Big Lunch. Encouraging people to share friendship, food, and fun, this event is a fantastic opportunity for community groups to get involved in the celebrations. This event will be taking place across the country on Sunday 7th May 2023, where people are invited to take to their streets, gardens and neighbourhood to get to know each of a little better through community celebration.
