Council ready to support local businesses with Tier 3 grant scheme

Before this weekend’s announcement about a new national lockdown from Thursday 5 November, Hyndburn was placed in Tier 3 (Very High Alert level) which imposed restrictions on local businesses from Saturday 17 October. The Local Restriction Support Grant (LRSG) is a financial package for businesses forced to close from Saturday 17 October and Monday 19 October 2020.

These grants will support businesses which were open and providing in person services to customers from their business premises, but were then required to close for a consecutive period of 2 weeks or more in accordance with the Public Health (Control of Disease) Act 1984.

The grant amount will depend on the rateable value of the property for business rates purposes. There are 3 rates of grant payments:

  • rateable value under £15,000 – £667 every 2 weeks;
  • rateable value between £15,000 and £51,000 – £1000 every 2 weeks; or
  • rateable value over £51,000 – £1500 every 2 weeks.

Eligible businesses will receive payments every two weeks provided they continue to meet the conditions and confirm that there are no changes in their circumstances. The scheme is administered by the Council but operates in accordance with Government guidelines and funding availability.

Councillor Miles Parkinson OBE, Leader of the Council said;

“In the last six months, we have issued more than £30m in additional funding and Hyndburn has been recognised nationally for leading the country in its efforts to support vital local businesses.

It is important that we continue to support our businesses throughout these difficult times ensuring funds are allocated to those businesses that have been forced to stop trading under the Government’s imposed restrictions.

Applications for Tier 3 Local Restriction Support Grants opens from today, 3 November 2020, and all the information needed to apply is on our website with the online form available 24 hours a day. I would urge our community of businesses to apply as soon as possible.”

With the introduction of the national lockdown from Thursday, 5 November 2020, there will be additional financial support for businesses forced to close during the lockdown. The Council will update its website and social media pages once the government releases guidance on this.
