As part of its response to COVID-19, the Government has provided local authorities in England with £500 million of new grant funding to support economically vulnerable people and households in their local area.
This grant funding is being used to provide a maximum £150 reduction to the Council Tax bills of working age Council Tax Support recipients with the potential of using the rest of the grant for new applicants for the rest of the year; people affected by COVID-19 who may be applying for Universal Credit for example.
There is no need to make a claim for the extra reductions and you do not need to have been directly or indirectly affected by Covid-19 to be entitled.
Council Leader, Cllr Miles Parkinson OBE, said; “Our Council Tax Support team has worked tirelessly with our software suppliers to provide this reduction to around 4,800 households in the borough and new bills are due to be issued from Tuesday 28 July 2020.”
If you pay your Council Tax by Direct Debit, you will not need to make any changes, your new payments will be listed on your new bill.
The extra reduction applies to this year only, which is your 2020/21 bill, and Council Tax bills are due to return to normal next year.
