End of roadmap confirmed for 19 July

Leader of Hyndburn Borough Council, Cllr Miles Parkinson OBE, said:

“Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, has announced the final milestone in the roadmap out of lockdown will be going ahead on 19 July, meaning legal requirements for restrictions will no longer be in place from this date. This is welcome news for many of our local businesses who have struggled with the practicalities of restrictions, some having to sadly remain closed for over a year.

“Although legal requirements for mask wearing and social distancing will not be in place, there is strong evidence that these measures should still be followed when possible. I am urging everyone in Hyndburn to continue to follow the recommendations and to respect each other’s space, especially when in indoor public spaces.

“We must act with caution and remember that just because we can do things, such as travel on public transport with no face covering, it does not always mean this is always the responsible choice. As emphasised in the statement from Downing Street, evidence shows we need to keep following hands, face, space whenever possible. Let’s keep working together to protect our wider community.”
