Festive bin collections

Christmas and New Year Bin Collections

With Christmas just around the corner, Hyndburn Council would like to share details about how the upcoming bank holidays throughout the festive period will affect bin and recycling collection around the borough.

  • This year, Christmas Day falls on Monday 25 December which means that all bins and recycling due to be collected on this day will now be collected on Saturday 23 December 2023 instead.
  • Bins and recycling due to be collected on Tuesday 26 December (Boxing Day) will also be affected by the bank holiday changes. They will now be collected on Saturday 30 December instead.
  • New Year’s Day will fall on Monday 1 January in 2024 and so this day will also be affected by changes to bin and recycling collection. They will be collected on Saturday 6 January 2024 instead.

For any residents who will be affected by these bank holiday changes, please note that all bins and recycling should be presented at their usual collection point by 07:30am, ready for when the waste services team begins their collection rounds.

Also, for all those who will be having a real Christmas tree this year, please note that Hyndburn Council will once again be running their real tree collection to help all residents dispose of their trees after the festivities. This will allow the trees to be turned into compost and wood chippings.

The waste services team will aim to collect the Christmas trees on the first recycling day after Christmas so residents should just leave their tree ready for collection with their usual recycling with all lights, tinsel, metal bases, etc removed. Residents should be assured that if their tree is not collected on this date due to high demand, that the team will collect it at the next recycling date following this.
