There is more opportunity to be active than ever before in Hyndburn, with the launch of a brand new green gym in Milnshaw Park.
The gym, which was funded through Sport England’s Community Asset Fund, consists of six pieces of equipment, including a leg press, hand bike and assisted pull up. Each piece of equipment has a QR code, which can be scanned to provide advice on how to use the gym equipment safely and effectively.
In addition to the equipment, a two-year engagement programme will also take place from April. A Community Activator will work with individuals and groups to train them to use the equipment. People will also be invited to become volunteer ‘activity champions’ and will be supported to train other local people to use the gym once the initial two- year programme has ended.
Volunteers will have their training expenses reimbursed as part of the project and have the option to gain coaching qualifications whilst volunteering on the project.
Chief Executive of Hyndburn Leisure, Lyndsey Sims, said:
“This is another opportunity for people to get active in Hyndburn and great news for local people who are interested in moving more! It is also a great way to get people outdoors and using our green spaces to help people with their health and fitness goals.”
Cllr Paul Cox, Hyndburn Council’s Cabinet Member for Parks, said:
“Exercising in the park can be great fun, no matter what your fitness level or ability. The new outdoor gym offers a great way to get active in the open air with family and friends exercising at your own pace.”
