Joint statement: Sara Britcliffe, MP for Hyndburn, Cllr Marlene Haworth, Leader of the Opposition and Cllr Miles Parkinson, Leader of Hyndburn Borough Council

Guidance on lockdown is being relaxed slowly and steadily as we transition between the phases on the roadmap to recovery. We are urging all Hyndburn residents to ensure they are informed about the current advice at every stage during this changing situation. It is critical that everyone adheres, so we can save lives and get our economy back up and running.

Following the news that non-essential shops should prepare for opening on the 15th June we have issued important information to help businesses be ‘covid safe’, this can be found in the news section on www.hyndburnbc.gov.uk. We are here to support businesses and will be working to encourage our community to use the shops and services available within our Borough. It has always been important to shop local, and even more significant going forward.

Central Government have released ‘The Reopening High Streets Safely Fund’ which will be used to help shops maintain social distancing and tempt shoppers back to highstreets. We welcome this funding and Hyndburn will receive £71,676 to create a safe and effective trading environment in our towns for businesses and customers. The fund has been allocated based on population size and cannot be used to pay for measures implemented by individual businesses.

As MP, Council Leader and Opposition Leader we are united in our work, to help the people of Hyndburn stay safe and ensure we come out strong on the other side of this global pandemic. Recovery plans are being formed and the wellbeing of Hyndburn is our joint priority. We are asking all Hyndburn residents to also unite, help each other and work for the betterment of our community during this difficult time.

We understand people may suffer hardship due to Covid-19 and would like to confirm that our Hyndburn Hub will remain operational for the foreseeable future. So far, the hub has helped thousands of individuals and is an invaluable resource that encompasses over 40 groups and organisations.

We would like to say thank you to the hundreds of volunteers who have dedicated thousands of hours of their own time to help others, without you the Hyndburn Hub would not have been possible. Help is available if you need it, please do not suffer alone.

Our Hyndburn Hub is working 7-days a week, if you or someone you know are in urgent need of assistance please do reach out.

To help the team get back to you as quickly as possible please email in the first instance: enquiries@hyndburnbc.gov.uk, visit Hyndburn Council’s website, or call: 01254 388 111
