CLLR MILES PARKINSON OBE, LEADER OF HYNDBURN BOROUGH COUNCIL
I would like to thank the whole Hyndburn community for showing strength and unity through this difficult time. We are now almost 3 weeks into the National enhanced measures after a very difficult year. As we enter the winter months it is now more important than ever we continue to work together.
I am pleased to say the rate of Coronavirus infection in Hyndburn is coming down, but we must keep it this way and not become complacent. It is through the hard work of individuals, families and businesses that we are beginning to slow the spread in our Borough. By following all guidelines and restrictions this will continue and we can work towards finding a new normal.
Many people are being asked to isolate after receiving a positive test, or being in close contact with someone who is positive. I am urging everyone to follow the instructions from NHS Test and Trace if you are contacted as this is key to our recovery. I would like to reassure our community that if you do have to isolate and are struggling to get essential supplies such as medicine or food, support is available from the Hyndburn Hub (01254 388 111, firstname.lastname@example.org ). You may also be eligible to receive a test and trace support payment of £500 if you will lose income as a result of self-isolation, further details of this can be found on our website: www.hyndburnbc.gov.uk
We may not be able to come together as we usually do during difficult times but staying in touch with loved ones and finding new ways to connect with each other will help us all. Please try and share vital information with friends, family and neighbours. Let’s reach out to each other whenever we can, in a safe way. This could be on the phone, via email, through the post or by video call.
Businesses in Hyndburn also continue to need our support. If you are planning to buy gifts over the festive period, please shop as locally as you can. Many of the fantastic shops on our highstreets are now offering a click and collect service or even home delivery.
In the last 6 months we have issued more than £30 million in additional funding and Hyndburn has been recognised nationally for leading the country in its efforts to support vital local businesses. Hyndburn Borough Council will continue to support them and are pleased to announce our application portal for ‘The National Restriction Support Grant’ is now open. This support grant will help businesses who have been forced to close due to the new national restrictions, to check eligibility and apply please visit our website: www.hyndburnbc.gov.uk
Please keep safe, follow the guidelines and look after our community.
