Cllr Miles Parkinson OBE
It has been a fantastic summer so far with thousands of people attending events such as the Food Festival, One World Festival, Eco Festival and various children’s theatre shows in the Market Hall. On the 27 August we are all looking forward to the SoapBox Challenge in Accrington Town Square and just a couple of weeks later on 10 September Hyndburn Sounds Music Festival, a brand new event for our borough. I encourage everyone to come along and attend these events, support local businesses whilst in the town and bring family, friends and neighbours too!
Throughout the summer months we have seen lots of news and activity around our parks and green spaces. We currently hold the most Green Flag Awards for any borough in Lancashire, a prestigious award that gives international recognition for exceptional green spaces and parks. We are also continually investing in all areas of green space in the borough, such as a new ballcourt which has just been completed in Huncoat (funded by Hyndburn Council, Hyndburn Leisure and Onward Homes), the purchase of 87 Acres of land for a country park in Oswaldtwistle and continued investment in transforming leisure facilities for all.
Improving wellbeing and health is a priority and we do understand many people are concerned about winter and increases in cost of living. To help we have made a commitment to freeze council tax for 22/23 and will be working to make sure everyone knows where they can get support if they need it. This support will include a list of places people can go to keep warm, food solution providers and lots of other support services.
