Leader’s viewpoint: Cllr Miles Parkinson OBE

After a difficult 18 months it is great to see events and activities returning to our borough. This half-term there are lots of free activities inside our historic Victorian Market Hall in Accrington, including a spooky trail and crafts for children.

I am also very pleased to share that Hyndburn has been awarded 9 green flag awards for this year. This is more than any other single authority in Lancashire! The weather may have changed and be getting colder, however our beautiful parks and outdoor spaces are still here for people to enjoy. Wrap up warm, put on some boots and maybe visit a park you haven’t before. Thank you to everyone in Hyndburn who helps us look after our green spaces. We have achieved these 9 awards through the hard work and dedication of the groundskeeping teams, volunteers and many community organisations.

It has also been great to hear about the successful covid booster roll out in Hyndburn. Over 100,000 covid vaccinations have now been administered in our borough and 84% of over 16’s have had at least one dose of the jab. People choosing to take up this offer of the vaccination is helping to protect our community and our local healthcare services. I would like to remind anyone who has not yet come forward for their vaccination that it is not too late, everyone is welcome, it does not matter if you previously declined the offer.

Please continue to be cautious and look after your friends and family, let fresh air in, open windows and if meeting up with others choose to meet outside whenever possible. Our Hyndburn Hub is still available if anyone is struggling, do not hesitate to get in touch: 01254 388 111 enquiries@hyndburnbc.gov.uk
