Leader’s Viewpoint: Cllr Miles Parkinson OBE

It is with great pride I continue to serve as Leader of Hyndburn Borough Council after this year’s annual general meeting. We have a fantastic and exciting time of transformation planned for Hyndburn and I am pleased to be working cross-party to achieve this.

Alongside our new Deputy Leader, Marlene Haworth, we will be working to bring in an unprecedented amount of funding and investment, predicted to total over £100million, giving Hyndburn a boost it has never seen before.

With our bid to the Government’s levelling up fund almost ready, improvements in leisure provision planned, a bid underway for the UK Prosperity Fund, plus pledges of support for Hyndburn from Heritage England and Heritage Lottery… we are ready to invest in our town in a way that will have lasting and meaningful impact.

All of this regeneration and transformation will have our environment in mind and I am pleased to say will be overseen by our new council Green Champion, Councillor Caroline Montague.

We will soon be coming together for Platinum Jubilee Celebrations across the borough and I encourage everyone to get involved. On Thursday 2nd June we have a range of civic events on the town square planned and on Saturday 4th there will be free funfair rides on the square plus Accrington Market Hall are hosting family-friendly activities and local businesses for a day for celebration. The Platinum Jubilee Bus, which we have specially commissioned, is travelling around our borough

People across Hyndburn will be enjoying street parties and it has been fantastic to hear of so many businesses getting involved with hosting parties and having special offers to commemorate the occasion. I hope everyone enjoys the celebrations as we raise a glass to Her Majesty The Queen.
