Wishing all in Hyndburn a safe and Happy New Year. For my first article of 2021 I would like to reflect on the past year by recognising how much our community has endured.
It has not been easy for anyone and during such a difficult time we have all had to make many sacrifices. Our community has pulled together to support each other and these efforts are continuing, coronavirus has not yet gone away so we must not stop now. I am reminding everyone, especially those who are vulnerable, to stay at home unless it is absolutely essential to leave.
There is support available for anyone struggling, our Hyndburn Hub is very much active, and they can assist if you need essential supplies or help. Please do get in touch with them if you need their services by emailing enquiries@hyndburnbc.gov.uk or call 02154 388 111.
Moving forward there is light at the end of the tunnel and I am hopeful for the future. The COVID-19 vaccine is quickly rolling out into our community thanks to the hard work and collaboration of many organisations pulling together. To those administering the vaccine, the marshals, those booking in patients and to everyone who takes up the offer and goes for their vaccine, thank you. Hyndburn is moving along the road to recovery with every vaccine administered.
It is really important to not to contact your GP or the NHS to request a vaccination, when it is your turn, they will be in touch with you directly to arrange this. The Vaccination is completely free, and you will never be asked for payment or bank details.
Unfortunately, there have been reports of people taking advantage of this situation and I am encouraging everyone to be vigilant to this. Scams such as text messages and phone calls offering you an appointment in exchange for payment are being reported throughout the UK. If this does happen to you, please do not give them any details and you can report it to Action Fraud by calling their COVID Fraud hotline: 0800 587 5030
Please stay safe Hyndburn, check on your neighbours, give friends and family a call and remember to keep following all the guidelines in place to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
