Data released by BEIS today, show Hyndburn Council as the District Council that has performed the best nationally in getting the most urgent help to local small businesses as quickly as possible. The Council has made payments of over £18.6m to over 1,700 businesses in the last few weeks, most of which were received in the first few days after the Government scheme went live. Over 92% of local businesses have received the funding and the Council is still working on getting funding to those businesses that could be entitled to financial support. Only 3 Councils nationally, Winchester City, Redcar & Cleveland and Southwark Council outperformed Hyndburn, but are all much larger unitary councils with significantly more resources.
Council Leader, Cllr Miles Parkinson OBE, said:
“Our staff have worked incredibly hard in difficult circumstances including working long hours and weekends to ensure this money, which will be a lifeline to many local businesses, has reached them as soon as possible. It’s a testament to their dedication to the local community, delivering this money quickly to where it is needed. We are also continuing our efforts to identify and pay out the remainder of the funds to support local businesses as quickly as we can to those businesses that quality under the Government scheme.”
