A huge whale installation took to Accrington this week to raise awareness of plastic pollution in the oceans and offer a great day of family fun. The event was funded by Hyndburn Borough Council and invited families to take part for free, as one of the many summer events hosted on the Town Square this year.
Taking centre stage in front of the Victorian Market Hall the giant Whale was a huge hit with hundreds attending to take part. Activities included meet and greet with a giant lobster, face painting, story time, shows throughout the day and an opportunity to journey deep inside the whale and learn about the impact of plastic on the world’s ocean.
Cllr Caroline Montague, Green Ambassador at Hyndburn Council said:
“This event has been wonderful and is a fantastic new addition to this year’s events programme. It is so important to raise awareness about plastic pollution and the team have done this in a fun, interactive and engaging way. Seeing young people and families talking part, coming into Accrington, having fun and learning at the same time is wonderful. I am really pleased Hyndburn Council have supported this event, alongside the eco festival a couple of weeks ago to help us learn how to live a greener lifestyle.”
