The Private Sector Housing and Environmental Standards Team provide a variety of services dealing with the private sector, including advice for tenants renting from a private landlord, Landlord Licensing, Houses in Multiple Occupation, Empty Properties, Properties Detrimental to the Amenity as well as Adaptations and Disabled Facilities Grants.
Private Rented Sector

If a house or flat is rented from a private landlord we can offer you help and advice about problems with disrepair.  We also provide advice and information to tenants and landlords about tenancy law and offences related to tenancy law, and we help to make sure that tenants are not made to leave their homes unlawfully.

Property Detrimental to Amenity

The Council can take action to seek improvements where land and buildings are unsightly and detrimental to the amenity of the neighbourhood.

Empty Properties

The Council is aware that there are a number of vacant / empty properties within the borough which can cause a variety of problems for their neighbours and is committed to reducing their impact and bringing them back into use.

Selective Licensing

With effect from 1 December 2012, the scheme will require landlords in parts of Accrington and Church to obtain a licence for every property they rent within the area.
