Imagine, create and learn at Haworth Art Gallery and Museum about our Arts and Crafts buildings, our collections of art and our Tiffany glass collection.

Discover the stories behind the people connected to the house. Be inspired by our international collection of Tiffany glass and make art inspired by our collections.

The museum offers two guided sessions for schools, led by staff, that focus on the history of the house and the Tiffany collection. We also offer resourses for self-led school groups, home schooled groups etc. free of charge. Please contact the museum at least three weeks in advance for the resources.

We also offer artist-led sessions to suit specific requests by teachers. Please note that those sessions should be booked at least 5 weeks in advance and may incur extra charges.

Arts and Crafts: Discover Nature and Architecture at Haworth Art Gallery

Suitable for KS1 and KS2

Discover the history behind Haworth Art Gallery, how the house was built, the people that lived here and how it came to be an art gallery, museum and park donated to the people of Accrington.

The children will learn, with outdoors and indoors activities, about the Arts and Crafts movement and the materials and techniques used to build the house. They explore the different rooms and discover why nature was such an important inspiration for the architecture of the place. They will also have a chance to look at our temporary exhibitions rooms and the Tiffany glass.

 

From Accrington to New York: Joseph Briggs, Tiffany glass and English Crafts

Suitable for KS2

Learn about the journey of Joseph Briggs, from third generation engraver in Accrington to Managing Director of the world famous company Louis C. Tiffany Studios in New York.

The children will explore how the collection came to Accrington, the links between Accrington textile industry and mosaics making in America, the different type of objects we have in our collection and the importance of both science and art in the production of Tiffany glass. Pupils will also have the chance to take part in handling collection activities and reflect on what they learnt during the session.
