Hyndburn Borough Council are working with Community Interest Company “Proffitts – Investing in Communities” on a project aimed at improvements to five sites in Great Harwood town centre.

The sites being considered include Bank Mill House Car Park, Game Street Car Park, Holgate Street Car Park, St. Hubert’s Road Junction and Towngate.

The team have produced draft plans for each site, which they’re now sharing online and on posters across the town centre.  They are now encouraging residents and visitors to Great Harwood to share their own ideas and suggestions for the project too.

Councillor Kimberley Whitehead, Portfolio Holder for Culture, Heritage and Arts said:

‘’We’re excited to have the opportunity to make some changes to these five popular town centre areas. Initial ideas include adding more seating and planting or installing interpretation boards that share more information about the wonderful Great Harwood heritage. However, before any plans are finalised, we’d really like the people who live here, work here, and visit the town centre, to let us know what would make the sites better for them’’.

Martin Proffitt, Director, Proffitts added:

‘’We know that even small changes can have a big impact on how people use a space, how much time they spend there, and how often they visit – so projects like this one are always great to be involved in. Draft plans are now available to view at each site, so do pop along and have a look when you can. The survey is available for people to feedback online, but if people don’t have internet access, then they can also contact us for a paper copy and share their ideas that way too.’’

These potential greening projects support the wider Great Harwood High Street Accelerator Plan, which will be launched later this month. The plan is the culmination of months of hard work and collaboration between the panel, local stakeholders, Hyndburn Borough Council and community members.

The Great Harwood High Street Accelerator Plan sets out a range of proposals for investment in the town centre, including improvements to public spaces, support for local businesses and the development of leisure facilities.

The Great Harwood High Street Accelerator Programme is funded by the UK Government.
