Full Schedule of Armistice Day and Remembrance Sunday Services and Parades Announced for 2024
Hyndburn Borough Council are pleased to share the list of events that will be taking place around the borough to mark this year’s Armistice Day and Remembrance Sunday.
Services and parades will be held in every township around Hyndburn this Remembrance Day, bringing together the community during this period of reflection. Attendees are invited to come together as one and remember the sacrifices of all those who have fought and given their lives for peace in conflicts both past and present.

Cllr Stewart Eaves, Hyndburn Council Armed Forces Champion, said:
“Remembrance Sunday and Armistice Day is a time for us all to reflect upon the past and ongoing sacrifices of our brave service men and women who dedicate so much to ensuring our safety today. Services and parades will be taking place around the Borough that weekend and I would implore all to attend one – it is a time for reflection and to unite as a community as we pay our respects.”
The weekend will begin with a full day of services and parades around the various townships of Hyndburn to mark Remembrance Sunday on Sunday 10th November, organised in conjunction with the Royal British Legion.
This will be followed by a short service held at The Accrington Pals Memorial Garden on Church Street, Accrington, commencing at 10:45am on Monday 11th November to mark Armistice Day. Members of the public are invited to join the Mayor of Hyndburn Cllr Mike Booth, Members of the Royal British Legion and members of Hyndburn Borough Council to mark the national two minutes silence to reflect on the sacrifices of our service men and women.
Road closures will be in place for a short time whilst some parades and services take place including:
Manchester Road from Oak Hill Park to Eastgate, Abbey Street from Manchester Road to Blackburn Road, Blackburn Road from Abbey Street to and including Church Street. Church Street in Accrington will also be closed on Armistice Day, 11th November, between 10.45 and 11.45am.
Union Road from Thwaites Street to and including Rhyddings Street in Oswaldtwistle. Union Road will be closed in full between Harvey Street and Lord Street from approximately 2:15 – 3:15pm.
Parts of Towngate, Church Street and Church Lane in Great Harwood.
Church Street and Blackburn Road between St Peter and St Paul’s Church and the War Memorial in Rishon.
Parts of Pickup Street, Grange Street and Church Street in Clayton-Le-Moors.

Schedule of Parades and Services:
Some road closures will be in place to accommodate services and parades.
ACCRINGTON – Service at Cenotaph at Oak Hill Park will begin at 10.45 am, followed by parade from Oak Hill Park to Church Street War Memorial for a short service. Free transport available at 10am from Accrington Bus Station (Bay 11).
ALTHAM – Service begins at 10.00am at St James Church, Altham followed by Act of Remembrance at the war memorial.
BAXENDEN – Service at St John’s Church at 10:30am, moving to the cenotaph for 11am.
CHURCH – Service and wreath laying at War Memorial in Gatty Park at 11am. Refreshments will be available for purchase at Elmfield Hall after the service.
CLAYTON-LE-MOORS – Procession starts at 9:40am from the Arthur Wilson Centre followed by Service at All Saints Church at 10:00am and wreath laying service at the memorial at approximately 11:00am. Refreshments available for purchase at the Old England Forever after the service.
GREAT HARWOOD – Assemble at Town Gate at 10:20am ahead of 10:35am parade from Town Gate to the War Memorial in Memorial Park. 10:55am service and wreath laying at the War Memorial.
HUNCOAT – Assemble at the corner of Burnley Lane and Lowergate Road at 2:10pm. Procession to the War Memorial for wreath laying ceremony at 2:30pm
OSWALDTWISTLE – Assemble on Thwaites Street at 2:00pm for parade along Union Road to the War Memorial on Rhyddings Street, departing at 2:10pm. Combined service and laying of wreaths at War Memorial at 2:30pm. Hot drinks available for purchase at Oswaldtwistle Social Club after the service.
RISHTON – 10:40am parade from St Peter and St Pauls Church (Church Street) to War Memorial for a short service and wreath laying ceremony.
