Hyndburn parks awarded the most Green Flag Awards in Lancashire for 2025
Following a record-breaking year in 2024/25 – Hyndburn Borough Council is celebrating retaining all 11 of its Green Flag awarded parks and green spaces for 2025/26 – the most of any borough in Lancashire!

Green Flag Award Scheme Manager, Paul Todd MBE, said:
“Congratulations to everyone involved in Hyndburn who have worked tirelessly to ensure that it achieves the high standards required for the Green Flag Awards.
Quality parks and green spaces, like those in Hyndburn, make the country a heathier place to live and work in, and a stronger place in which to invest.
“Crucially, Hyndburn’s parks are a vital green space for communities to enjoy nature, and during the ongoing cost of living crisis it is a free and safe space for families to socialise. It also provides important opportunities for local people and visitors to reap the physical and mental health benefits of green space.”
The Green Flag Award scheme, managed by environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy under licence from the Ministry of Housing, Communities & Local Government, recognises and rewards well-managed parks and green spaces, setting the benchmark standard for the management of green spaces across the United Kingdom and around the world.
The 11 award-winning parks and green spaces in Hyndburn are: Milnshaw Park, Oak Hill Park, Peel Park, Gatty Park, Cutwood Park, Lowerfold Park, Mercer Park, Wilsons and Woodlands, Accrington Cemetery and Crematorium, Memorial Park and Rhyddings Park.
Cllr Stewart Eaves, Portfolio Holder for Environmental Services, said:
“I am delighted that Hyndburn has retained all 11 of its Green Flag awards and would like to thank our staff, the many ‘Friends of Parks’ groups, Hyndburn Green Spaces Forum and other volunteers who worked tirelessly to make this possible.
Taking a stroll through Gatty Park in Accrington, it became immediately clear why it has been granted this prestigious award alongside its sister parks throughout the borough.
Making sure that our residents have green spaces to enjoy in their leisure time is a top priority of the Council. It has been proven to benefit our mental and physical health, as well as helping the environment by improving biodiversity.”
Cath Holmes, Chair of Hyndburn Green Spaces Forum, commented:
“There are many staff and volunteers working behind the scenes to ensure that Hyndburn’s parks are kept to such a high standard – and this award is a great way to recognise them.
Their hard work and dedication mean that the people of Hyndburn have an abundance of award-winning parks and green spaces to enjoy.
This is something that everyone in the Borough should take great pride in, as we all play a part in maintaining these high standards.”
Hyndburn Borough Council encourages all residents to enjoy our award-winning parks and green spaces throughout the year – especially over the summer period when we hope the weather will complement their natural beauty perfectly.
