Councillor Encourages Grassroots Sports Clubs to Apply for Small Grants
A Hyndburn Councillor is encouraging local grassroots sports clubs to apply for funding via the Council’s Cabinet Action Fund, as five more clubs became the latest to receive a small grant.
So far this year, 11 sports clubs have successfully applied to the scheme, which is a budget dedicated to addressing community needs and supporting local service providers.

The latest grants have been awarded to five sports clubs from across Hyndburn.
Baxenden Cricket Club were awarded £1,000 for training equipment to support their junior teams.
Whinney Hill FC were awarded £1,500 for repairs to damaged fencing and the dugout, and towards the cost of improvements to their changing facilities.
Accrington Wildcats RLFC received £1,500 to subsidise cost of their subscriptions for junior members, helping encourage more young people into rugby league.
Huncoat United Juniors FC received £1,250 for repairs to their goalposts and nets which have been damaged as a result of vandalism.
Peel Park FC were awarded £1,000 towards new equipment to help them establish new junior teams and further develop the club.
They join six other clubs, representing different sports who have previously received grants. Fairfield Boxing Club, Oswaldtwistle St Marys FC, Great Harwood Bowling Club, Accrington Allstars FC, Mercer Park Bowling Club and Enfield Cricket Club have all benefited from a council grant.
John Stitt, Treasurer of Huncoat United Junior FC said:
“When we were hit by vandalism of our new goals at the same time as our club roof sprang a major leak, Hyndburn Council quickly came to the rescue with some funding to both get the goals fixed and a good contribution to roof repairs – Huncoat Utd JFC are very grateful for this help at a difficult time.”
Councillor Kimberley Whitehead, Deputy Leader of the Council and Portfolio Holder for Sports said:
“Grassroots sports clubs are the heart of our communities, they bring people together, promote health and wellbeing and provide opportunities for all ages to get active and involved. These small grants can make a big difference, helping clubs to buy equipment, expand programmes and reach more local residents.
We’re incredibly proud that the Council has been able to award grants to 25 clubs so far, supporting the fantastic work they do across Hyndburn. I’d strongly encourage any club to get in touch and apply. We’re proud to support the incredible work they do.”
The Cabinet Action Fund, announced earlier this year, is a budget dedicated to addressing community needs and supporting local service providers. This fund is part of the Council’s ongoing commitment to help local organisations who provide support for Hyndburn residents.
