Mayoral Viewpoint: Cllr Josh Allen January 2026

As the last of the festive season passes and the New Year gets well underway, I hope the weeks just gone by brought moments of happiness, togetherness and brightness to households across the borough.

With so much to look forward to already this coming year, I would like to take this chance to tell you more about the upcoming Mayor’s Ball that the Mayoresses and I are thrilled to be hosting in 2026. Taking place on 10th April 2026 at the Dunkenhalgh Hotel in Accrington, the Mayoress and I are looking forward to bringing together our local community for an evening of celebration and fundraising in aid of some causes that do so much good across the borough.

One of the aspects of being Mayor that I value most is the opportunity to raise funds for charities and local organisations that are especially close to my heart. At the outset of my Mayoral year, I chose several causes whose work across the borough I greatly admire and personally support.

The charities that we will be striving to raise funds for with the upcoming event will be: Accrington Community Events, who dedicate their time to hosting free/affordable local events around the borough; Andy’s Man Club, who are a men’s suicide prevention charity; Church & Oswaldtwistle Royal British Legion, who work tirelessly to raise money for our servicemen and women; and Oswaldtwistle Cadet and Scout Youth Zone, who do fantastic work supporting our young people.

The generosity and community spirit of Hyndburn never cease to amaze me. The Mayoresses and I have had the privilege of attending so many wonderful events, and we’re always struck by how much good is being done right here in our own borough. With these fantastic community groups at the heart of The Mayor’s Ball, I know it’s going to be another memorable evening where we can come together to support local causes and enjoy a wonderful time with great food, music, and entertainment. Every penny raised will go to the selected organisations, helping them continue their incredible work.

Tickets are £50 per person and now on sale. These are available to book directly through myself by emailing josh.allen@hyndburnbc.gov.uk. Alternatively, you can book online at www.ticketsource.co.uk/mayorofhyndburn . I look forward to welcoming all with open arms to what I am sure will be a brilliant evening for the community.
