Additional Refuse Capacity
Before applying for additional capacity, please read this page carefully
Large households may be eligible for additional refuse capacity if they regularly produce more waste than fits into a standard refuse bin. If you are applying for additional recycling or a replacement refuse container, please select this link.
What is additional refuse capacity?
It is an application process that allows qualifying households to receive an extra bin or larger bin where waste levels are clearly higher than average.
Who can apply?
You can apply if:
- Your household has a larger number of permanent residents, and
- You are already using all recycling services correctly.
Please see table below detailing the number of residents required to qualify for stage 1:
| Number of people in Household | Number of children in nappies | Application outcome |
| 6 or under | 0 | Application Refused |
| 7 or more | 0 | Stage 1 |
| 2 | 1 | Application Refused |
| 2 | 2 | Application Refused |
| 3 | 1 | Application Refused |
| 3 | 2 | Stage 1 |
| 4 or more | 1 or more | Stage 1 |
If your household does not meet the minimum number of residents shown in the eligibility table above, please do not complete the application form. Applications that do not meet the criteria will be automatically refused.
If someone in your household generates additional medical waste (not classed as clinical waste), you may also qualify for additional refuse capacity. Evidence may be required to support this
What you will need
You may be asked to provide proof of everyone living at the property, and any relevant documentation if medical needs create extra waste.
Before you continue
Check that all recycling, food waste, and other services are used properly.
Applications may be declined if recyclable waste is placed in the refuse bin.
After reading this page, you can proceed to the Additional Refuse Capacity Application Form.
