Hyndburn Council awards Cabinet Action Fund grants to schools in Baxenden and Oswaldtwistle
Hyndburn Council has awarded two more community grants via it’s Cabinet Action Fund, and this times it’s local schools who are celebrating.
Baxenden St John’s Primary School were awarded £2,000 which will go towards the school replacing outdated IT equipment with 30 new laptops.

St. Oswalds RC Primary School were awarded £790 towards the cost of their January Pantomime trip, where children enjoyed a fantastic performance of Aladdin.
Julie Green, Headteacher at Baxenden St John’s Primary School said:
“We are incredibly grateful for the grant from the Council’s Cabinet Action Fund, which has enabled us to significantly enhance digital learning across the school. The funding allowed us to purchase new laptops that are now being used by children from Reception through to Year 6, ensuring every pupil has access to high‑quality technology that supports and enriches their education.
These devices have already made a meaningful difference in the classroom. They have opened up new opportunities for interactive learning, improved digital literacy, and supported pupils in developing essential skills for the future. The laptops are used daily across a wide range of subjects, helping teachers deliver engaging lessons and enabling children to explore, create, and learn with confidence.
This investment has strengthened our school community by ensuring all pupils—regardless of background—can benefit from equal access to modern technology. We are proud to see such strong support for our school and its commitment to providing the very best learning experiences for every child.”
Councillor Kimberley Whitehead, said:
“We’ve supported some fantastic local projects this year through the Cabinet Action Fund, and I’m so pleased we’ve been able to include two primary schools in the latest round of grants. Baxenden St. Johns Primary School has a special place in my heart and I’m pleased to have been able to support them to provide new IT equipment which will benefit the whole school.
As Portfolio Holder for Culture, I’m also pleased to be able to support children from St Oswalds Primary School to be able to experience some traditional culture in the form of panto!”
The Cabinet Action Fund, announced earlier this year, is a budget dedicated to addressing community needs and supporting local service providers. This fund is part of the Council’s ongoing commitment to help local organisations who provide support for Hyndburn residents.
