Local riders invited to help shape new St James’ Wheeled Sports Area

Hyndburn Borough Council is working with specialist skatepark contractor Bendcrete Skateparks to develop proposals for a new and improved wheeled sports facility at St James’ in Accrington, replacing the existing skatepark located between Eagle Street and St James’ Street.

As part of the next stage of the project, local skaters, BMX riders, scooter riders and other wheeled sports users are being invited to meet the Bendcrete design team and help shape the proposals.

A face-to-face design consultation session will take place on Thursday 22nd October, giving local users the opportunity to find out more about the project, discuss potential features and share their ideas directly with the designers.

Bendcrete’s team will be on hand to hear from the people who know wheeled sports facilities best – those who use them – and understand what they would like to see at St James’.

Councillor Munsif Dad BEM JP, Leader of Hyndburn Borough Council, said:

“We want the new facility at St James’ to be shaped by the people who will actually use it. This is a great opportunity for local riders to speak directly to the specialist designers and make sure their experience and ideas are considered as the proposals develop.’’

A spokesperson from Bendcrete Skateparks said:

“We’re looking forward to meeting local riders and hearing first-hand what they enjoy, what works well and what they would like from the new facility. You don’t need to arrive with a finished design or technical knowledge. Whether there is a particular feature you would love to ride or simply something you think would make the facility better, come and talk to us. Those conversations are really valuable when developing a design that works for its users.”

Ahead of the redevelopment, the existing skate park will close and the current ramps will be removed in October 2026.

The removal of the existing ramps marks an important step in progressing the project. Further updates, including information about the developing design and subsequent stages of the scheme, will be shared as the project moves forward.

The St James’ Wheeled Sports Area Design Consultation Session will take place on Thursday 22nd October 2026, from 6.00pm to 7.00pm at The Zone (Also known as New Era), Paradise Street, Accrington, BB5 1PB.

Everyone is welcome.
