Play Area Refurbishment Completed at Windsor Road Recreation Ground in Time for Half-Term
Children and families in Great Harwood are set to enjoy a fantastic new play area this half term following the completion of a major £70,000 refurbishment project at Windsor Road Recreation Ground.
The project forms part of Hyndburn Borough Council’s ongoing programme of investment in parks and open spaces across the borough. Funding was provided through the UK Government’s Pride in Place Impact Fund, with additional investment from Hyndburn Borough Council.

The refurbished play area replaces ageing equipment with a range of exciting new facilities designed to encourage active play, imagination and social interaction. New features include traditional favourites such as swings and slides, alongside modern equipment including a large rope swing that can be enjoyed by several children at once.
The play area also includes interactive elements inspired by the nearby fire station, helping to spark children’s imaginations while creating a fun, safe and welcoming space for families.
The investment is one of several projects taking place across Hyndburn this year to improve play facilities and public spaces. Refurbishment works at Gatty Park have already been completed, improvements at Harwood Road Recreation Ground in Rishton are progressing well, consultation continues on plans for a new skatepark in Accrington, and several further play area improvement projects are due to begin in the coming months.
Councillor Munsif Dad, Leader of Hyndburn Borough Council, said:
“We’re delighted to see the new play area at Windsor Road Recreation Ground completed and ready for local families to enjoy during the half-term holidays.”
“This project demonstrates our commitment to providing high-quality, free-to-use recreational facilities for children and young people across Hyndburn. The Pride in Place Impact Fund has enabled us to deliver significant improvements to parks and open spaces, helping to create places that our communities can be proud of.”
“I have my fingers crossed hoping for some nice weather this half-term so that local families can make the most of this excellent new play facility.”
Residents are encouraged to visit the new play area during the half-term break and experience the new facilities for themselves.
