Coal Authority Requirements For Planning Applications

There are many old coal workings around Hyndburn, with the possibility that development may disturb old mine workings, leading to subsidence or damage to buildings or their occupants.

Coalfields are divided into two distinct areas; Development High Risk Areas (formerly Coal Mining Development Referral Areas) and Development Low Risk Areas (formerly Standing Advice Areas).

From 28th November 2024 the Coal Authority will be known as the “Mining Remediation Authority”
