Commercial photography and filming on Council land
Commercial Photography and Filming
This guidance is for anyone who wants to commercially film and take photographs in and around the borough, including film and media companies and members of the press.
If you’re intending to film or take photographs, contact us as soon as possible. We’ll be able to advise you what you need to do. We can also tell you if there are any issues with the day you’ve chosen to film.
Parks and Open Spaces
You need to contact us if you want to film or take commercial photographs in one of our parks and open spaces. You’ll need to provide us with the following information:
- what type of shoot or performance you want to hold
- what the filming, photo shoot or performance is about
- the dates you are looking to film or hold the performance
- the size of the film crew
- for a performance, the size of the crew and the likely audience size
- details of any equipment you will be using
- what vehicles you will be using
You will also need to provide a risk assessment and a copy of your public liability insurance before we can give you permission.
As a minimum, you must make your request at least 2 weeks in advance. If you are looking for multiple dates, or if you need street closures, you will need to give us more notice.
For larger projects, you may need approval from our Events Safety Advisory Group to proceed. If you think this may be the case, please approach us with at least 6 weeks-notice to enable us to deal with this request. More information can be found here.
Car parks
You can contact us for more information if you want to use one of our off-street car parks as a location or for parking vehicles involved with the production.
Buildings
You can contact us for more information if you want to use one of the Council’s buildings for your shoot or production. Please note, requests to film on the inside of our buildings will be managed on a case by case basis with no guarantee that we will grant you access.
