Dog fouling
Dog Fouling
Dog mess is the most unacceptable and offensive type of litter on our streets. Our research tells us that dog fouling is the issue the public are most concerned about.
Dog fouling is not only deeply unpleasant, it is dangerous. Whilst rare, contact with dog excrement can cause toxocariasis – a nasty infection that can lead to dizziness, nausea, asthma and even blindness or seizures.
Anyone who fails to clear up after their dog can be issued with a Fixed Penalty Notice of £80. If the case goes to court this could cost the owner or person in charge of the animal up to £1,000.
Report Dog Fouling
Tackling dog fouling is very important because it is one of the biggest concerns among residents and the Council’s dog warden service will investigate all reports of fouling on public land.
Dog owners generally tend to take their dogs for routine walks along the same routes so if there is a persistent problem we can monitor it.

What if I Have Received a Fine?
If you have been issued with a Fixed Penalty Notice (FPN), then please read and carefully follow the information on the notice and the reasoning of the offence committed as there are no grounds for appeals.
If you don’t agree with the fine, you have the right not to pay it, and appeal against the decision in a Magistrate’s Court.
No Legal proceedings will be taken against you for the offence if the FPN is paid in full within the 14 day suspended enforcement period and this would not be made public and the matter will be closed. If the fixed penalty is not paid, you may be prosecuted for the offence resulting in upto £1000 fine and the prosecution will be made public.
