Another Fantastic Year of Christmas Light Switch On Events in Hyndburn
Hyndburn once again celebrated the festive season in style with 11 Christmas light switch-ons across the borough. Clayton-Le-Moors had the honour of hosting the first event on the 25th November followed by Accrington, Baxenden, Milnshaw, Oswaldtwistle, Great Harwood, Rishton, Fern Gore, Church, Huncoat and finally Altham on the 11th December.

Kimberley Whitehead, Portfolio Holder for Culture, Heritage and Sport, said:
“It’s been wonderful to see all the Christmas light switch-ons come together. I want to personally thank everyone who helped to organise these events and bring the Christmas spirit to Hyndburn.
The Fern Gore event came together wonderfully, and it was great to be joined by so many of the local community to welcome the beginning of the festive season. I hope that everyone across the borough has a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!”
The #AmazingAccrington event on the 27th November drew huge crowds who came eagerly to see 90s boy band, East 17, switch on the Christmas lights. The Great Harwood Christmas Extravaganza also returned this year with extra special guest, Blondied – a Blondie tribute act led by local singer, Michelle Hendricks, who made a return to her hometown of Great Harwood after an international tour.

The smaller Christmas light-switch on events throughout the borough were well attended and brought communities together for an evening of festive fun. The Oswaldtwistle event saw the Ossy Elves out in force providing hotdogs and sweet treats for the kids. Over in Great Harwood, local primary school children were invited to sing Christmas carols, making for a truly magic evening. In Baxenden, The Mayor was on hand to turn on the lights after a Christmas Fair at St John’s church. In Rishton, characters from the KPop Demon Hunters entertained the children at another fantastic but rainy event. And at Fern Gore, a popular Christmas Fair so stall holders quickly sell out before the lights were switched on by Zack Kerr, Freeman of the Borough of Hyndburn.
Peter Holden of Great Harwood Civic Society, said:
“The Great Harwood Big Light Switch-On was amazingly successful despite the big winds and heavy rain. The choirs from the town’s 5 primary schools each sang a Christmas song on the Town Square in front of over 500 people – an experience they will never forget.
Hyndburn Borough Council sponsored 11 Christmas light switch-on events in townships across the borough, which were organised by local Councillors and supported by a number of local organisations and volunteer groups.
