The St George’s Cross will be flying proudly across the borough as Hyndburn get behind England in this summer’s World Cup.

From today, official civic flag poles at Hyndburn Borough Council sites across the borough will fly the national flag of England for the duration of the team’s participation in the tournament.

The display is a show of support for the England squad and an opportunity for residents, businesses and communities to come together and enjoy the excitement of one of the world’s biggest sporting events.

Mayor of Hyndburn, Cllr Noordad Aziz, said:

“The Football World Cup is one of those special events that brings people together. Whether you’re a lifelong football fan or simply enjoying the atmosphere, we’re proud to show our support for England and celebrate the sense of community in Hyndburn that occasions like this can create.”

The Football World Cup also shines a spotlight on the positive impact that sport can have on our communities. Across the borough, local clubs, coaches, volunteers and grassroots organisations work year-round to provide opportunities for people of all ages to get active, develop new skills and build friendships.

Residents inspired by the tournament are encouraged to get involved in sport and physical activity this summer, whether by joining a local club, volunteering, supporting community teams or simply getting outdoors and being more active. Hyndburn Borough Council wishes the England squad every success and hope residents across the borough enjoy the tournament.
